Haridwar is regarded as holy places for Hindus. Hosting important religious event like Kumbha and
serving as a gateway to several prominent place of worship like Badrinath – Kedarnath – Gangotri -
Yamunotri.
According to puranic legend, Haridwar is one of sites where drops of Amrita, while being carried by
the celestial bird Garuda during the Samudra Manthan. The spot where the amrita fell is located at
Har Ki Pauri. Hindus gather sacred Gangajal from the Ganga and carry it as offering in shiva shrines.
